Review: Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil

Hello Everyone!

Today I will be reviewing the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect Cleansing Oil.
I actually really like a bunch of the Skinfood Black Sugar line, I absolutely LOVE the Black Sugar exfoliating mask and am a huge fan of the Black Sugar scrub foam.

The Black Sugar Cleansing skincare line is an exfoliating and moisturizing cleansing line with organic black sugar that is enriched with vitamins and minerals to hydrate and nourish skin.

It uses dark brown sugar, not actual black sugar. The brown color derives from the amount of molasses, a syrup separated out from sugar after the refining process. Black sugar is unrefined, leaving behind more of the natural benefits.

This is an oil type cleanser that is rich in mineral black sugar, refined rice wine, and 6 botanicals for gentle makeup removal and a smooth nourished complexion. Botanical oils work effectively to remove oil based makeup and impurities for a cleaner, clearer complexion without a sticky residue.
It has a really water-y texture, which is somewhat unusual for a cleansing oil, really runny.

A 4-in-1 cleanser: Cleanse + Exfoliate + Refine + Moisturize

Size: 200 mL or 6.76 oz.

Color: Clear and Colorless

Fragrance: a light sugar-y, sweet smell. Not overpowering at all.

How To Use:
Dispense 2 to 3 pumps of the cleansing oil onto clean hands and apply onto dry, uncleansed face. Gently massage until makeup is fully removed. Wipe off with a soft tissue or rinse off with lukewarm water. Proceed to second-step cleanser.

How I Use It:
I use this cleanser every night in the shower. I usually use it right away before allowing my face to get wet. I pump it 2 times and rub the cleansing oil all over my face and neck, since I do put skincare products on my neck too. I gently massage the oil around my face and then rinse it off with warm water.
If I happen to be wearing any makeup, I usually do 1 pump for my face, 1 pump for my neck, and 1 individual pump for each of my eyes, then I gently massage the oil around. If I have eye makeup on, then I 1st gently massage all over my face and then go back in and concentrate on my eye area, this way I can make sure I am cleaning the eye from all the makeup.
If after washing off the cleansing oil and there's still makeup present, then I would just go back in and pump more cleansing oil to remove the rest of it off.

Here, I will be testing how well of a makeup remover this cleansing oil is:

1: Maybelline New York Fit Me! Concealer - Medium
2: Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner
3: Secret Key Skinny Real Quick Eyeliner
4: Lorac Pro Cream Eyeliner - Black
5: Tony Moly Gel Eyeliner - Black
6: Tarte tarteist Lash Paint Mascara

Here, I swatched the cleansing oil. As you can see, it is so water-y and runny, that it can't keep form on my hand and is running down the sides of my hand instead.

After rubbing the cleansing oil around the makeup, I can see faintly see the Secret Key eyeliner. *Note: I did this on DRY skin, my hand is NOT wet with water yet.

After cleaning the oil off with warm water, pretty much all of the makeup is cleaned off. I can see a very faint line of the Secret Key eyeliner, however, if I went back in with another pump of the cleansing oil, the eyeliner would be completely washed off.

Overall, this is an okay cleansing oil. It definitely isn't one of my favorites, but it got the job done. Usually if I am wearing eye makeup, I have to use multiple pumps of oil to completely wash off all over my eyeliner. This is something I do NOT like, because it means I have to keep rubbing my eye area to wash it all off, AKA creating potential wrinkles.
The scent of the cleansing oil doesn't bother me at all, it's really faint and goes away fast.
It doesn't make my skin feel dirty after washing off. I guess it is sort of moisturizing, it's kind of hard to tell after I wash it right off, but my skin doesn't feel dry, so that must be an indicator that it still completely stripping me of my natural skin oils.
I don't really like that the texture is so water-y. It makes me feel like I need to use more product, especially cause it's just running down my face and it sometimes feels like I'm not washing anything off. The water-y-ness is so water-y that it slips through the cracks between my fingers, which makes me lose more product.
In general, it's not a terrible cleansing oil, it gets the job done and the price is reasonable.

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐⭐
It's a good cleansing oil. I would recommend anyone to try it, especially some of the other Black Sugar products that are a part of this skincare line. It's a reasonable price, not too expensive, and it give alot of product, 200mL, which is quite generous compared to other cleansing oils. It does wash off majority of my makeup, so it does a good job.
