Review: Shiseido Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Eye Concentrate

Hi Everyone,
Today I will be talking about one of my favorite skincare brands of all time, Shiseido!!!

I've always been a huge fan of their products. I especially love their night creams and sunscreens. I always see a major improvement in my skin whenever I use their products.

The product I'm talking about today is the Shiseido Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Eye Concentrate.
I used the sample, mini sized one. It came in a set that I bought during Christmas time in around 2017, but  I didn't officially start to open the set and use the products until September 2018. (I just have too many skincare products...)

This was the set that I bought from Ulta for $57. I was essentially only paying for the full sized eye cream that have inside while everything else inside was "free" in a sense.

This eye concentrate is a "boosting pre-treatment to defend against damage around the eye area."
It helps enhance the benefits of anything you put on top of it, while also defending and strengthening skin to fight off visible dark circles, wrinkles, and dryness or roughness. Especially for delicate skin around the eyes, this formula acts as both protection from potential damage and a buffer to the daily assault that can visibly age skin.

According to a test done by Shiseido, out of over 220 women (who self-evaluated), 82% of women who used the formula as a pre-treatment before eye cream felt it boosted the benefits of their regular eye care products after 4 week, regardless of their skin type, concern and age.

Key Ingredients:
  • Shiseido's exclusive Ultimune Complex™ is formulated with Bulgarian Rose Water, Aqua in Pool and Yeast Extract to protect and strengthen skin against damage and signs of aging.
  • ImuMoisture Extract™ helps enhance the effects of Ultimune Complex™ to strengthen the delicate skin around the eye area.
  • Powerful botanical blend of Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract, Shiso and Thyme maintains a healthy skin surface and protects against impurities.
Size: 5 mL
  • Usual full size is 15 mL
Color: Opaque white, NOT clear

Fragrance: I couldn't smell anything, however, I used such a small amount that it doesn't seem like there's any smell. Maybe if you used a greater amount there might be a scent, especially since one of the ingredients is Bulgarian Rose Water.

Texture: Very gel like in consistency. It's very light and looks and feels almost on the side of greasy when rubbed on.

Packaging: Because I used the sample, mini size of the eye concentrate, my packaging is different from the original full size version. The sample packaging was a plastic white tube.

How To Use:
Apply morning and evening after cleansing, balancing skin and applying Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate. Follow with eye cream that addresses targeted concerns.

How I Used It:
I didn't know this was a "pre-treatment," so I used this concentrate as if it was my eye cream. So I didn't apply any additional eye cream like the instructions from Shiseido says to do.
I was squeeze out a little bit of the concentrate, literally less than a pea size, and gently dot it around my eyes. I would then use my ring finger on both hands to gently dab the concentrate into my skin, making sure to dab the concentrate onto my eyelids as well.

Here is a close-up of what the concentrate looks like.

I used the sample tube for a total of 2 MONTHS. Below, I have pictures of how my eyes looked on the day I started to use the concentrate all the way to the last day I used it.
BEFORE
You can see I have some dark circles under my eyes as well as some eye wrinkles on my lower eyelid.

This is how I apply the eye concentrate. I just dab a little around my eye then gently massage it in, make sure you also apply up onto your upper eyelid!

AFTER
This is how my eyes look after applying the concentrate. It looks really greasy and oily. It doesn't actually be like that too much and it's not heavy at all. Feels very light despite how it looks.

1 HOUR LATER
You can see that even after an hour, the skin around my eyes looks has that shiny, greasy look. Almost as if the concentrate has been fully absorbed in, but it definitely feels like the concentrate as absorbed in.

NEXT MORNING
The next morning, the skin around my eyes doesn't have that shiny, greasy look anymore. Obviously the concentrate finally got absorb in. I guess maybe there's a slight difference in the darkness of my dark circles, but really it's not a huge discernible difference.

Overall,
I'm not 100% convinced that my dark circles are less visible. Maybe if you compare from the beginning of when I started using it (BEFORE) to the very end how my eyes looks, I guess maybe, maybe there's a slightly lessening in darkness under my eyes, but I'm not really sure.

I don't think the fine lines or wrinkles under my eyes have gotten better. I still have the same wrinkles under my eyes even after 2 months of using this concentrate.

Shiseido says that 82% women used this concentrate as a pre-treatment before using their eye creams and felt like it boosted the benefits of their eye cream after 4 weeks. I didn't use another eye cream after applying this concentrate, I essentially used this eye concentrate as my eye cream, so I can't really say for sure if this statistic of their's is true.
Since this eye concentrate on its own was suppose to help with dark circles and wrinkles, I assumed that I would've been able to see a difference, but if there is one it's really minimal. Maybe I need to use it longer? Not really sure.

The good news is, it's really moisturizing! The skin around my eyes never felt tight or outstretched from dryness. It may look oily when applied, but it's actually really lightweight and not greasy at all.
I'm also really apply that it didn't cause me to grow more milia (only what I already had was there).

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐
While I do love Shiseido products, this one was really more of a miss for me. I mainly only like it because it was really hydrating for the skin around my eyes and it didn't cause my to get more milia. I didn't notice any reduce in wrinkles and if there is a reduction in the darkness under my eyes, it's really minimal and almost unnoticeable.
If you do buy it to try yourself, I would highly recommend buying it from Amazon. It's a lot cheaper there than buying from the Shiseido website or other places like Sephora or Ulta.

  1. chances are you bought a good knock-off on Amazon. It's hard to come by authentic brands there.
