Review: Generation Clay - Urban Defence Purifying Pink Australian Clay Mask

Hi Everyone!

After last week, reviewing the Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask, I have wanted to do a comparison review with this Generation Clay Urban Defence Purifying Pink Clay Mask.
Both are Australian pink clay masks and in all honesty that are SUPER similar. The only main difference is the price. Generation Clay is significantly cheaper than Sand & Sky and they give the SAME amount of product. Keep that in mind as I do my review.

I bought this mask on Amazon just last week, it was on sale, usual price is $39, but there was an additional $10 off coupon, making my final price $29. I have actually been eyeing this mask of quite some time, maybe about 4 months now, but there never was a deal going on, so I was reluctant to buy it.

Australian skincare has been getting quite some hype these days, so maybe this is just the beginning!

This is actually a SET, so there are 2 other masks that Generation Clay has. Maybe in the future, if they get cheaper or if there's another coupon, then I will buy them and make a review over them as well.

Generation Clay says:
This mask is packed with Kakadu Plum, a small but mighty Australian fruit that holds the highest known natural source of Vitamin C. Bursting with antioxidants, it helps stimulates collagen, reduce hyper-pigmentation, and protects from harsh environmental aggressors, such as pollution.
All ingredients are natural, made with botanical ingredients are that safe for every skin type. Also added Vitamin E for reinforcement at blocking free radicals, age-fighting Vitamin A, and old man weed - a traditional indigenous medicinal remedy which fights acne-causing bacteria.

Key Benefits:
Refine: Reduces oil and minimizes the appearance of pores
Purify: Draws out impurities, toxins and pollutants
Brighten: Rejuvenates dull, tired skin and fades dark spots
Soothe: Calms skin and reduces inflammation

Active Ingredients/Beneficial Ingredients:
Kakadu Plum: Brightens skin, stimulates collagen and protects from free radicals
Bentonite Clay: Deep cleans and purges skin of impurities
Old Man Weed: Fights acne-causing bacteria
Aloe Vera: Soothes skin and reduces redness

***Cruelty-FREE***

Size: 2.1 oz or 60 mL

Fragrance: There is a strong, nice rose scent to this mask. Rose extract is one of the ingredients and it's been said that rose can help with brightening the skin. Smells like a rose garden! I love the smell. It goes away as the mask is drying on your skin. It isn't overpowering, so people who are sensitive to fragrances should be fine.

Color: Light Pink, dries White.

Texture: Smooth and Creamy

Sensation: Sometimes I feel like I can feel a tingling sensation, other times I don't feel anything at all, so it could all be my imagination, or I am just trying to compare it too much to the Sand & Sky mask. However, based on many other people's review, I would say that there is NO tingling overall, no real sensation from this mask, just dries like any old clay mask.

Accessory: Brush

Full Ingredients List: Aqua (Water), Kaolin, Bentonite, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Arrowroot (Tapioca Flour), Rosa Damascena (Rose) Extract, Althaea Officinalis (Marshmallow) Extract, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Lavandula Angustifolia Water, Terminalia Ferdinandiana (Kakadu Plum) Extract, Centipeda Cunninghamii (Australian Native Plant) Whole Plant Extract, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Lactic Acid, CI 77491, CI 77492

Great for ALL skin types!!!

Here is a swatch of the mask. It's a light pink color and as it dries it turns white. It's creamy and smooth in texture.

How To Use:
1. Using the applicator brush provided, apply a thin and even layer to dry skin.
2. Wait approximately 10 minutes, or until clay begins to tighten but feel slightly wet on touch.
3. Use lukewarm water and circular motions to gently rinse off the mask.
4. Gently pat skin until dry with a clean towel.

How I Use It:
I don't really like to use the brush applicator, I know it's suppose to make it more hygienic, but I feel like I am actually LOSING more product because it's getting stuck in the brush instead. I usually just use my pointed finger (cleaned beforehand) to get the mask out and dot my face with the mask, then I spread it around with the rest of my fingers.
I like to use masks at night after I have finished showering, that way my skin is already clean and my pores are open from my hot shower so the mask so clear out as much as possible.
Once I have applied the mask all over my face, I let it dry down, then I wash it off with warm water.

Here is how I looked BEFORE I applied the mask.

                                             DURING                                           DRIED

There are visible "holes" in the mask. These are areas of my pores that are being purified and detoxified by the mask.

Some more visible areas that my pores are being cleaned out.

In the RIGHT picture: the mask dries and does crack, but it does NOT crumble. The cracks are not that intense either.

Picture 1: This is a close-up of my right cheek. My pores are visibly cleaned out. I don't really think there is a reduce of redness, it could be could I had just finished washing the mask off, but overall, I don't think there's a reduce in redness on my right cheek.
Picture 2: This is a close-up of my left cheek. You can see I have a dying pimple here, and the pores on the pimple and around it are cleared out, more clean looking. Maybe a slight reduce of redness here, not 100% sure. I think the pores do look a little small here, but not by much.

Picture 3: My right side of my nose along with the nose-cheek/nose bridge area. Pores look small and more clean. The nose bridge area isn't much of a change, maybe the bumps went down a little, but it's like really really really minuscule.
Picture 4: My left side of my nose along with the nose-cheek/nose bridge area. Pore look visibly small at the nose bridge area. I wouldn't say the redness went down on my nostril area, where I have some peeled skin from blowing my nose too much. However, it does look like the mask helped clean the area of the injury and the edges of the injury look more smoothed out, less "flake-ish".

Picture 5: The pores at the front of my nose are visibly smaller, almost nonexistent in my opinion. There is a reduces in redness at the tip of my nose.
Picture 6: This is my forehead. There is a BIG difference from the BEFORE and AFTER pictures. There is a reduce in redness. The acne looks "cleared out" or even gone/better in some areas. The big pimple I have at the top has reduced in size, less red, less puckered out. My skin overall looks more cleared out.

My skin looks brighter and cleaner. There was definitely a reduce in redness on my forehead. My cheeks and forehead has a glow-y look to it. My skin doesn't look as dull as it was before.

Overall, I really like this mask. I love the results, I see a change right away after each use of this mask. My pores are visibly cleaner and many of them have shrunk in size. There is a reduces in redness in some areas such as my forehead, the apples of my cheeks, and the tip of my nose. My skin looks less dull and has more of a glow to it.
I wouldn't say that this mask is that moisturizing, I skin still feel a little dry after using this mask, it has that tight skin feeling to it. My skin does feel soft and smooth after each use of this mask though.
One thing I like about this mask is that it's a LOT cheaper than the Sand & Sky Mask, only $39, and when I got it, it was on sale on Amazon with an additional $10 off coupon! So the final price was $29, making this mask even more worth it. It literally gives the SAME amount of product as Sand & Sky, but with a reduced price.
However, realistically, the usual price of $39 is actually still on the expensive/high side. I usually would never pay that much for a mask. Even with the coupon, making it $29, is still kind of expensive for me, but I really wanted to try it and this was the first time I had seen a deal like this so I wanted to take advantage of it before it was gone.

If I had to choose between Generation Clay or Sand & Sky, I would definitely choose Generation Clay.

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really like this mask and I would highly highly recommend everyone trying it out!
