Review: RE:CIPE Rose Petal Cleansing Oil vs. Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil

I have recently finished my cleansing oil from RE:CIPE, the Rose Petal version, and started using a new one, the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil. I bought the Rose one on Memebox, back when they were still selling products on their website last year. I bought the Klairs cleansing oil on Amazon a couple of weeks ago when I noticed that I was running out of my Rose cleansing oil.

RE:CIPE Rose Petal Cleansing Oil
One thing I really love about this cleansing oil is that there are REAL rose petals inside the bottle. Although, I do feel like I got much less rose petals than I should have gotten.
This cleansing oil is infused with Bulgarian Damask Rose Extract which purifies and brightens your skin. It does a fine job of removing make-up and impurities from your pores while moisturizing your skin with luxe oils. I find that after I use this cleansing oil, my skin feels soft, but I do not notice my skin being any brighter.
Side note: the rose scent is not that strong, even with the rose petals and the added rose extract, the smell of rose is still really weak. It has a very liquid-y almost watery texture for a cleansing oil.
  • This cleansing oil is free from: parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), mit, mineral oil, formaldehyde, peg, dye, silicones, sulfates, triclosan, propylene glycol, tea, coal tar, formaldehyde-releasers, talc, alcohol.
  • Full Ingredients List: Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Olea Europaea Fruit Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Glycine Soja Oil, Carrot, Beta Carotene, Water, Butylene Glycol, Butyrospermum Parkii Extract, Fragrance, Rose, Rose
  • Size/Amount Given: 200 mL
  • Abilities: Soothing, Brightening, & Acne-Fighting

How I use it: On a DRY face, I pump the bottle twice into my hands (which are also DRY too), then I rub the oil around on my face, concentrating on any area that I needs extra attention such as my T-zone and any place that I wear make-up. Once I feel that I have rubbed off as much of the impurities off of my face, I rinse my face with warm water to wash off the oil. I only use this at night time as part of the double cleansing step. I always follow up with a water-based or foam cleanser after using the cleansing oil.
*You can use this twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, I just prefer to just use it at night only.*

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil
This cleansing oil is composed of various vegetable oils that are helpful for your skin and is effective in removing impurities and make-up. This is a mild cleansing oil, which is great for anyone who has sensitive skin, has a pH level of 7.
This oil cleanser has a thick consistency and a kind of Chinese medicine-herbal smell. I actually like the smell, it is light and not overpowering at all.
Side Note: this cleansing oil is eco-friendly, vegan friendly and cruelty free.
Some notable oils in this cleansing oil are:
    • Black Bean Oil: controls sebum production, increases skin elasticity and provides a soothing effect.
    • Black Sesame Oil: gives antioxidant effects through components such as Beta-carotene, Rinolenic acid, Sesamin, Sesaminol and Tocopherol. Black sesame also prevents dehydration.
    • Black Currant Seed Oil: promotes skin cell regeneration and provides antioxidant effects from containing rich minerals. It also strengthens the skin's protective later to prevent the evaporation of moisture from the skin.

How I use it: I use this cleansing oil the same way that I used the RE:CIPE Rose Petal Cleansing Oil. On a DRY face, I pump the bottle twice into my hands (which are also DRY too), then I rub the oil around on my face, concentrating on any area that I needs extra attention such as my T-zone and any place that I wear make-up. Once I feel that I have rubbed off as much of the impurities off of my face, I rinse my face with warm water to wash off the oil. I only use this at night time as part of the double cleansing step. I always follow up with a water-based or foam cleanser after using the cleansing oil.

I wanted to compare which one was better, so I decided to test out the ability of the cleansing oils with the same types of make-up on each hand.

RE:CIPE Rose Petal Cleansing Oil                      Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil

I have put the same swatches of make-up on each of my hands, this way we can compare which oil cleanser will take off the most make-up to determine which one is the better of the two.
I have listed below what each swatch on my hands are:
1: Innisfree Power Proof Brush Liner - Liquid Eyeliner
2: Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner
3: Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara
4: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer - in Medium
5: Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation - in Pure Beige

On each hand I pumped the cleansing oil twice. As you can see, the RE:CIPE cleanser is much more water-y and thinner in texture, it can barely stay on my hand! The Klairs cleanser is much thicker than the RE:CIPE, staying on my hand better instead of running off.

Here, I have rubbed the oil cleanser over my hand, trying to remove the make-up from my hands. I actually rubbed for quite a long time, my hands we starting to turn red from all the rubbing. You can see that there's still a some of the Innisfree liquid eyeliner still on both of my hands, Klairs Oil Cleanser (Right) and RE:CIPE Oil Cleanser (Left).

After rinsing off my hands with warm water, I wiped the residual water and here is the results. In my opinion, the Klairs Cleansing Oil (Right) took off more of the make-up than the RE:CIPE Cleansing Oil (Left). This is mainly based on the observation of how much is left of the Innisfree Power Proof Brush Liner. All the other make-up was rubbed off right away after I started massaging the oil into my hand, only the Innisfree eyeliner was much more stubborn on coming off. This is after only going over the make-up ONE TIME with the cleansing oil. Usually when I am washing make-up off my face, if there is still any make-up leftover after the first wash, I just go over it again with more cleansing oil and it would be completely washed off after the second time. However, I just wanted to show you how it turned out after the first wash to see if there would even need to be a second wash.

Final Result: I think the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil is BETTER than the RE:CIPE Rose Petal Cleansing Oil.
Not only do I prefer the smell of the Klairs to the RE:CIPE, but I like the texture and it's ability to take off more make-up on the first wash. I like that the Klairs has a thicker texture, more oil like rather than the water-y-ness of the RE:CIPE.
I would recommend the Klairs oil cleanser to anyone that needs or wants to use a great oil cleanser that gets the job and done well! It is really affordable and can easily be bought from a number of websites. I find that the RE:CIPE Rose Petal Oil Cleanser is actually kind of hard to find in regards to a place to buy for it when compared to the Klairs.

Rate (out of 5 stars) for Klairs: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
5 Stars for sure! Highly Recommend the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil.

Rate (out of 5 stars) for RE:CIPE: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
4 Stars! I would still recommend this oil cleanser if you want to try a unique oil cleanser that has REAL rose petals inside it, however, I took off one star for personal preferences that this oil cleanser does not meet up to.
