Review: Acwell 5.5 Licorice PH Balancing Cleansing Toner

Hi Everyone!
Today, I will be talking about a very popular toner that has received so many god reviews and recommendations. It is the Acwell 5.5 Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner.
When this toner first came out, it was completely sold out! It was so popular that according to Allure, there was a wait-list of over 2,000 people waiting to get their hands on this toner from Sokoglam.com
At first, I was really apprehensive on buying this toner since I wasn't impressed with the Acwell Bubble Free pH Balancing Cleanser. However, since I was already buying some other products on Sokoglam and I still needed a couple more dollars before I got free shipping, I decided to try this toner out based on the mass good reviews.

This toner is known for not only toning your skin but also acting as another way to cleanse your skin. Sometimes even after you've cleansed or double cleansed your skin, there is occasionally the tough buggers that are still in your skin. That's where this toner would come into play to help. This toner will help to remove impurities and dirt left on your skin after you've cleansed, helping your skin to not only be clean but also to absorb the rest of the skincare products you will be layering on later on.
As a toner, it helps to deep cleanse the skin while also providing hydration, leaving skin to feel smooth, not tight.

All skin have a slightly acidic pH, so it's important to re-balance your skin when you finish cleansing. This toner has a low pH of 5.5, making it effective not only in balancing your skin, but also making it perfect for anyone who has sensitive skin.

This toner is making a name for itself due to the high concentration of Licorice Water in it. It contains 10% licorice water, which is known to be a natural skin brightener. This is NOT licorice, like the candy you eat. Instead, it is from Licorice Root. Licorice root is a well studied herb that has shown to have many benefits to the human body and skin. It can help soothe redness with its anti-inflammatory properties. There are also anti-bacterial properties in licorice root, making it able to fight against damaging free radicals and acne-causing bacteria. Since licorice root is a natural skin brightener, it can also help to even out dark sports and acne scars. It is really commonly used in Chinese traditional medicine and you could easily buy some yourself buy going to any Asian supermarket.

  • Licorice Root Water acts as a natural skin brightener.
  • Peony flower extract which is an anti-oxidant and an anti-inflammatory. It also works well to brighten the complexion.
  • Green tea extract which helps to calm and reduce pigmentation, this includes acne scars and dark spots.

Here's a swatch of the toner on a cotton pad. There's actually a slight brown, or almost light yellow color to this toner. It's probably due to the herbal extracts that are in it. Sorry, you can't really tell because I'm using a pink cotton pad.

How To Use:
After cleansing face and neck, pour small amount of toner onto hands or cotton pads and pay gently onto skin. Continue with the rest of your skincare routine.

How I Use It:
I use this toner both morning and night right after I have finished cleansing my skin. Depending on how I'm feeling, I'll either just applying this toner with my hands or I will pour it onto a cotton pad and gently swipe it onto my skin. Either way is fine! Make sure you do NOT forget to also apply toner to your neck!

Below are BEFORE/AFTER pictures. They are 1.5 MONTHS from each other!
Left: BEFORE
Right: AFTER
This is the first time I used the toner. You can see after using it just one time, there was a brightness to my skin after the first use! My skin look brighter and feels and looks moisturized. There seems to be a less dull look to it. I wouldn't say it did much for the redness/pimple that I have on my cheek.

1.5 MONTHS LATER
Left: BEFORE
Right: AFTER
After using for 1.5 months, my skin still looks brighter after applying the toner. There is definitely a less dull look to my skin tone. I don't feel like my skin is light, it's nicely hydrated.

Left: BEFORE
Right: AFTER
Again, my skin looks brighter and less dull. I don't really see any reduce in redness.

Overall, I really liked this toner! I was completely shocked to tell you the truth. I expected to hate this toner since I didn't their cleanser, but I'm so glad I took the plunge in buying it!

It is definitely a moisturizing toner that helps to provide adequate moisture to your skin while also helps to calm and soothe the skin. I didn't see much reduce in redness to be honest and I think that's really evident in my BEFORE/AFTER pictures. However, it isn't irritating at all. It didn't cause me to breakout and it didn't increase any redness.

I absolutely LOVE that it helps to brighten my skin tone! I feel like it' is really noticeable that my skin looks brighter whenever I use this toner. It really helps to alleviate that dullness in my skin. I also believe that this toner helped to improve my overall skin tone. I just feel like my skin looked healthier and more glow-y whenever I used it.

A plus with this toner is the cleansing properties. It's always nice to have a multi-tasking product that will not only improve your skin, but also help clean it in a way that does NOT leave any sort of residue. This little extra-ness can really help people who didn't completely remove all of the dirt and grime from their face even after cleansing.

The price of this toner isn't horrible either. It's $18 on Sokoglam which is pretty reasonable for the amount given. When I bought it, there was some sort of coupon that I used, making this toner even cheaper for me, so definitely always try to google coupons before you finish checking out!

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really loved this toner and I would recommend everyone try it! I totally understand why it's such a "holy grail" product for so many people. I would definitely buy this toner again in the future!
