Review: Illi (Illiyoon) Total Aging Care Cleansing Oil

Hi Everyone!

Today, I will be reviewing one of my all time favorite cleansing oils.
This cleansing oil from Illi (later they re-branded their name to Illiyoon) is made with oriental herbs, following the hanbang, which is traditional Korean herbal medicine used in skincare.
Illiyoon is an affiliated company with the big luxury Korean brand: Amore Pacific, however this brand sister brand is much more affordable.

Illi Total Aging Care Cleansing Oil is an emulsifying cleansing oil formulated to removed makeup and sunscreen, typically used as the first step in cleansing one's skin. It is targeted for ALL skin types.

Star ingredients: Green Tea, Ginseng, Bean, Camellia
  • Green Tea: Brightens skin
  • Ginseng: Improves skin's elasticity
  • Bean: Moisturizes skin
  • Camellia: Smooths skin
CAUTION: This cleansing oil DOES contain mineral oil. I know some people are sensitive or allergic to mineral oil, so be careful because this does contain it. Also, there are 2 coconut oil derivatives in this cleansing oil, some people find coconut oil to cause issues for their skin.

If you try to find the Illi Total Aging Care Cleansing Oil online, you will see that it is almost impossible to find. It seems that Amore Pacific has discontinued their Total Aging Care skincare line. I spent many months trying to repurchase this cleansing oil, but couldn't find it anywhere. Now, there's a new version.

BUT, I did find an Amazon link that sells it, but it's much more expensive than it used to be.
Illiyoon has UPGRADED this cleansing oil to the Illiyoon Fresh Moisture Deep Cleansing Oil. I myself have NOT used this new cleansing oil, so I will not be able to share my thoughts on it. I might try it out in the future.

The upgraded version is mineral oil FREE, which I guess is something they were working on because some people have issues with cleansing oils that contain mineral oil, which this Total Aging Care cleansing oil does contain.

Size: 200 mL

Color: Colorless

Texture: There is a slight thickness to the cleansing oil, but it's also not super water-y or runny.

Fragrance: There's a delicate ginseng floral scent

Accessories: Comes with a cap to over and protect the opening of the pump so that it doesn't accidentally leak out if you are taking the bottle with you to travel (this is something I really appreciate about this cleansing oil).

Skincare Benefits: Brightening, Shine, and Resilience effect

Free From:  Animal Material, Artificial Color, Silicone, Sulfate, Triethanolamine, Imidazolidinyl Urea

Full Ingredient List: Mineral Oil, Isopropyl Palmitate, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, PEG-8 Isostearate, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Cameillia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Natto Gum, Dextrin Palmitate, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Butylene Glycol, Water, Fragrance

How To Use:
As first step, dispense 2-3 pumps of product into palm. Spread over dry face and massage. Wet hands and massage again to emulsify. Rinse and proceed with the rest of your skincare routine.

How I Use It:
I only used this cleansing oil at night when I'm in the shower. I like to do my nightly face cleansing in the shower, I just find that it's much more convenient for me.

If I don't have any makeup on my face, then I only need 1 pump of this cleansing oil to clean my face and neck.
If I DO have makeup on my face, then I use 1 pump for my face and neck and 1 pump for EACH of my eyes (so total of 3 pumps).

I gently massage the cleansing oil on my DRY skin, making sure to massage it well to remove as much dirt and impurities as possible. Once I think I have done as much as I can, I use warm water to rinse the oil off my face.

Below, testing out how well this cleansing oil removes makeup
1. Joah I'm So Fly Brush Liquid Eyeliner: https://bit.ly/2HbJWI6
2. Estee Lauder The Estee Edit The Edgiest Up & Out Double Mascara: https://amzn.to/2HAHL0Q
3. Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner: https://amzn.to/2LfugGd
4. Maybelline Fit Me Liquid Concealer: https://amzn.to/34hxfFu

From Left to Right:
You can see that the cleansing oil is slightly runny as it slowly drips down my hand. It had a bit of thickness to it, but it's only slightly. It is colorless and there is a herbal floral scent to it.

I have rubbed the cleansing oil over the makeup. You can see that it has essentially dissolved all the makeup except for a little of the liquid eyeliner and the mascara. It completely removed the WATERPROOF pencil eyeliner.
When water is added, the cleansing oil emulsifies and it becomes really milky and white. I didn't get a picture of it, sorry.

After rinsing my hand of the cleansing oil (the water was a little too hot which explains my the picture of the right, my hand looks red), you can see that ALL the makeup was completely removed.

Overall, I LOVE THIS CLEANSING OIL!!!!!
It's literally my all time favorite that I have ever used. I am so sad that Illi has discontinued it, I really REALLY wish they would bring it back.

This cleansing oil is really gentle, doesn't hurt my eyes, removes ALL my makeup, cleans my pores of sebum, dirt, and impurities really well, and doesn't cause me to break out. This cleansing oil really is great for ALL skin types, even for anyone with sensitive, acne prone skin.

If you aren't wearing any makeup, 1 pump is literally all you need to clean your face and neck! I go an extra mile when I do have makeup on and I like to do a pump of cleansing oil for each eye, but that is really just a personal preference. In actuality, you probably don't need a pump per eye, but I just really like to be thorough, especially since I'm using the cleansing oil in the shower, so I don't have a mirror to look at to make sure I got everything off the first try. Therefore, I just like to be sure by using a pump per eye.

Some people might be off-put by the fragrance of this cleansing oil. I actually really enjoy it and it doesn't bother me at all. I like the herbal floral smell, it's makes me reminisce my childhood. It's also quite a strong smell, so if you can't handle strong fragrances then this might not be your cleansing oil.

I have already personally re-purchased this cleansing oil 2 times and I've even gifted this cleansing oil to some friends and they have all said that they really like it.

I definitely categorize this cleansing oil as a HOLY GRAIL product.

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love love LOVE this cleansing oil. I really hope Illiyoon will bring it back because it truly is amazing! If you can get your hands on it, finding it somewhere online, I highly recommend buying it!
