Review: Klairs Mid-day Blue Sun Lotion SPF 40/PA++

Here is another sunscreen review!

I bought this sunscreen from Yesstyle.com when they were having a sale on Klairs products. Along with this, I had bought the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner that I had previously reviewed.

This sunscreen from Klairs is really unique because it is literally BLUE. It's a pale, pastel blue color.

This unique blue sunscreen is made to protect your skin from UV rays as well as providing protection from direct heat to guard sensitive skin from heat waves.

It is a creamy texture that provides hydration/moisturization. There is a lightweight feeling on the skin and after application there is a subtle glow that transforms into a "feathery" finish. I guess the finish is kind of matte, but I wouldn't say it's as matte as the Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish Sun Milk SPF 50+/PA+++. 

Formulated with Guaiazulene, like the Blue cream, to calm irritated skin as well as tone down the redness from harsh UV rays for effortless, flawless skin. Also includes great ingredients such as lavender oil, niacinamide, and SPF 40 to protect and nourish skin.

Great for all skin types, but I would recommend more for DRY skin. As an oily-skined person, I just don't have a personal preference for this sunscreen, I feel like it kind of makes me look more shiny.

BAD NEWS!!!!! There is a WHITECAST with this sunscreen. You can actually see a line from the side that has sunscreen and the side that doesn't have sunscreen applied. It also steeps into any imperfections you have on your skin, such as dry spots and acne scars. 

They say that this sunscreen creates that slight whitecast to brighten your complexion, however, I feel like a sunscreen shouldn't have to give you a whitecast in order to brighten your skin tone. Am I the only one that thinks so?

How I Use:

I use this sunscreen as my last step in my skincare routine in the morning. I usually apply sunscreen about 5-10 minutes before I actually go outside so that my skin has time to absorb the sunscreen and be fully protected.

I usually just put a small amount of my fingertip and dot my face with it in 4 areas, my forehead, both cheeks, and my chin. I then gently massage the sunscreen into my skin.

Also, I apply this sunscreen on my neck and if my shirt/clothes happen to show some of my upper chest/sternum area, then I would also apply this sunscreen there too.

Here is a swatch on how the sunscreen looks. It's kind of hard to tell due to my skin tone, but the sunscreen IS blue.

After the application of the sunscreen on my hand, you can actually see the border between my hand and my wrist on where the sunscreen was applied. This is the whitecast! My hand also looks noticeable "brighter", but this is really the whitecast in effect. It might not seem like much of a difference on my hand, so here is how it looks on my face.

Here is how my face looks before and after the application of this sunscreen. As you can see, my skin looks noticeably whiter and "brighter". I don't really notice any reduced redness on my face, but it could just be because I don't really have any redness to begin with. There is a slight matte finish to this sunscreen.

Overall, this was an okay-ish sunscreen. I absolutely do NOT like that it has a whitecast and I wouldn't use that as an excuse to say it is brighten my skin, because in reality it's not. The whitecast is really quite prominent on my skin and even on darker skin tones. I feel like only people with lighter or fairer skin tone can pull off this sunscreen and not ever have to worry about this sunscreen's whitecast showing through.
I guess if you use this sunscreen as a base to your make-up then it might not be too bad because the make-up can help disguise the whitecast.
However, I also really don't like how it shows through on your skin imperfections. My dad has some acne scars or just some scaring on his face and you could noticeably SEE the sunscreen in those areas because it was get stuck in it and not absorb all the way into his skin. He was so embarrassed about it that I had to open a new sunscreen for him to use even though this one wasn't even finished.
Also, one time I went out with my sister and she had applied this sunscreen onto her face and I could SEE the line at her jawline where see applied the sunscreen and where she had stopped after her jawline and not applied the sunscreen. It was as if someone had painted a white line on her jaw.
While it is cool that this is a blue sunscreen and it is suppose to reduce redness and help soothe the skin, I didn't notice any of these effects.
It does have moisturizing effects on the skin, so this is a plus for dry-skined people.
While there is a matte-ish finish to this sunscreen, I find that my skin tend to get alittle shiny as the day goes on when I have this sunscreen on. I also notice that my glasses will still slip down my nose when I have it on, so it is mattifying enough that it can hold up my glasses like the Etude House sunscreen that I mentioned previously.

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐
It really is just your typical sunscreen that gets the job done. The only bad news is that whitecast and the shiny-oily feel I get at the end of the day.
This is a really unique sunscreen in that it is blue, which I have never seen another sunscreen be blue. It is a fun experience to use.
I would recommend anyone to use this sunscreen, testing it out, see how it turns out on your skin. Maybe the whitecast won't be as bad on your skin as it was on mine or the rest of my family. Maybe you like that "brigthen" look. Either way, it still is a good sunscreen to use to protect your skin from UV rays and heat.
