Review: Laneige Eye Sleeping Mask

Hi Everyone!

Today, I will be discussing the Laneige Eye Sleeping Mask. I got this as a Christmas/Birthday present last year from my sister. It took be a while to actually start using it since I had so many other eye creams that I needed to try first, however, this one was really interesting to use.

Sleeping masks are a great way to nourish and moisturize your skin. May applying the gel-like mask onto your skin and leaving it on overnight, you're allowing you skin absorb all of the skincare goodness slowly. The sleeping mask can also act like a barrier and like seal to help lock-in all the skincare that you've applied at night.
An eye sleeping mask is the same concept but it's for your eyes specifically.

I have never used a eye sleeping mask before and this was honestly the first time I ever used any kind of sleeping mask in general. I don't think there are any other brands that make eye sleeping masks, or if there are, I think Laneige was the one who first came out with the idea (not 100% sure).

Laneige Eye Sleeping Mask description:

Laneige Eye Moisture Wrap technology is a sleeping moisture technology that moisturizes tender skin around the eyes prone to dryness as if wrapping skin with a breathing moisture film during the night. Through the technology, the substances of hydro ion mineral water and Sleep-Circular are densely absorbed into skin during the night, making skin around the eyes look clear and revitalized.

I'm not sure if you guys care about clinical data, but for anyone who wants some more information, here is the clinical data found on the Laneige website:

Here's a close-up of the ceramic ball massage applicator. It feels really refreshing when it's rolling/massging around the delicate eye area. It's cold, which helps with de-puffing the eyes and it's really gentle if you don't use a lot of pressure.

Here's a swatch of the sleeping mask. It's gel-like in texture, however, maybe a little more sticky-ish than the typical gel creams.

Size: 25 mL / 0.84 oz.

Color: Colorless, opaque.

Fragrance: Fragrance-free

Texture: It's gel-like in consistency, but it's also kind of sticky-ish. It glides on really easily, but if you used your finger to rub it around, it would leave kind of a sticky residue on your finger.

Packaging: Comes in a really nice bottle. I want to say it's a glass bottle, but I'm not 100% sure. It's definitely not plastic. I also like that it comes with a separate cap. There's a bottle cap and there's the ceramic ball applicator that is also used as a cap. I think that there's a separate cap because I like to save these bottle and this way I can use the regular cap to close the bottle and use the ceramic ball applicator on a different eye cream.

How To Use:
Use at the eye cream step of skincare routine at night. Using the ceramic applicator, dot a generous amount along the orbital bone and follow the massage directions. Gently pat in the remaining with your ring fingers and leave on overnight.
May be used as an eye cream or layered under other sleeping masks.
Use 2-3 times a week. Avoid putting product directly into the eyes.
Tip: Wipe the ceramic ball clean with tissue before storing.

How To Massage:
For best results, after application, use ring fingers or ceramic massage tool to lightly press inner corners of the eyes and then gently stroke across the eyelids. Lightly press outer corners of the eyes and then gently stroke under the eyes. Press underneath the eyebrows and then gently sweep down to inner corners of the eyes. Press the center under the eyes and then gently sweep outward up to brow bone. Repeat 1-2 times to help soothe and de-puff fatigued eyes.

How I Use It:
I used this eye sleeping mask at night and on the mornings that I knew I wasn't going out and I would be home all day. I use this eye sleeping mask in place of an eye cream!
I would put the applicator in the bottle so that the ball would be coated with the mask, then I would swipe it under my eye and put the applicator back into the bottle to coat the applicator again and swipe it under my other eye. Then I would use the applicator to gently/lightly massage the mask around my eye, including the upper eyelid, corner of my eyes, and lower eyelid. Once I feel that I have massaged the sleeping mask in sufficiently, I would NOT wipe the applicator clean with a tissue, I would just put it back into the bottle. (I don't really see the point of cleaning it when you're going to be putting it right back in...)

Below are BEFORE/AFTER pictures of the effects from this eye sleeping mask.

BEFORE
I have already finished the rest of my skincare routine, all that I need to do it apply the eye sleeping mask. Under my eyes look deflated, more wrinkle-y, same with the outer corner of my eyes as well. Actually the outer corners aren't wrinkle-y, but they do look kind of deflated.

Here's how I swipe the sleeping mask under my eyes. I don't dot it around my eyes. I just put a generous amount under the eyes and use the applicator to massage it all around.

Here's how the sleeping mask and my eyes look after it has been massage all over. You can see it's shiny looking. It glides on really easily.

25 MINS LATER
Here's how the sleeping mask looks after it has been sitting on my eyes for 25 minutes. It's almost fully absorbed, looking less shiny. I feel like you can sort of see that the under eye area looks less wrinkle-y, maybe it's becoming more moisturized.

AFTER (Next Morning)
This is how the eye looks in the morning after having the eye sleeping mask sitting on my skin overnight. I feel like the skin around my eyes are moisturized and doesn't have that deflated look. The skin under my eyes look less wrinkle-y. I don't think my skin looks puffy at all either.

Overall, this is a really nice eye sleeping mask!
I like how it moisturizes the skin around my eyes, helps inflate the skin under my eyes and my outer corners, and helps my wrinkles kind of disappear in the morning since the delicate skin under my eyes are moisturized. I know it might not seem like there's a difference, but there's also a difference in skin texture. The skin around my eyes feel softer. I wouldn't say it feels smoother.

Honestly, I don't suffer from puffy eyelids, so I can't really say much on whether this sleeping mask can help with that. However, the ceramic ball applicator is definitely like a de-puffing tool that can help with any swelling around the eyes. The cooling effect of the ceramic ball along with the gently massage of the applicator allows circulation around the eye which can help with the puffiness.

I don't know if it has any brightening effects on the skin around my eyes. I naturally have slightly dark-ish under eye circles. Many people tell me it isn' noticeable or that they don't even see it, but I feel like it's really noticeable. It could just be all in my mind.... But I wouldn't say this sleeping mask helped with the dark circles or brighten the skin around there. I wasn't expecting it to, but Laneige is advertising that it does.

I really like that I can use the ceramic ball massage applicator with other eye creams now that I've finished using this sleeping mask. It's a great tool to use, again, as a de-puffer. I just think it's a great way to apply eye creams, especially since your skin is so delicate and thin there, by using this tool and only using light pressure, you can help minimize the amount of wrinkles you create from applying eye skincare.

Side note: I know you aren't suppose to use this sleeping mask in the morning, but as I mentioned earlier, I like to also use it in the morning on days that I know I'm not going out and I'm just at home all day. I notice that once the sleeping mask as dried, if you happen to touch the skin around you eyes, like if you were rubbing your eyes, the sleeping mask will kind of flake off. I wish I had taken a picture of it, but I always forgot to do it. It kind of looks like those eraser shavings you get when you erase pencil marks from paper. But instead of the black color, it's white. It's just a slight annoyance to me, but realistically it shouldn't be a problem for anyone if they're just using it as a night sleeping mask.

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I like this sleeping mask and I would definitely recommend everyone to try it. It's really great at moisturizing the skin around the eyes and the applicator tool is amazing. It's also a really reasonable price!
