Review: Pyunkang Yul Cleansing Foam

Hi Everyone!

Today, I will be reviewing a quite popular skincare product within the Korean skincare community. It's from a "clean and safe" brand called Pyunkang Yul. They are well known for their products to work well for anyone with sensitive skin while also having limited ingredients within their effective products. They're big on creating products that help skin to become healthy while retaining moisture and control oil production.

I bought my cleansing foam from Yesstyle.com because of the high ratings not only on their own website but also from places like Amazon. It was really affordable, around the price range of $10 if I remember correctly.

This mild cleansing foam unclogs pores by removing impurities and sebum. It's only made with 16 ingredients!

"Vacuum cleaner for pores"
It's "viscous and stretchy cleansing foam thorough absorb waste and sebum, and clean them away easily," as said by Pyunkang Yul. I will save my thoughts on this below in my conclusion of this cleansing foam.
The viscous cleansing foam is suppose to stretch over your skin, helping to absorb and get rid of sebum from your pores. I'm not exactly sure how that's suppose to work??? Maybe like a duct tape concept?
It will minimize skin irritation with its soft and smooth foam it create when lathered around in water.

Star Ingredient:
  • Saposhnikovia divaricate root extract: skin protection
    • Used this to replace purified water in the ingredients. It offers dry skin the needed nourishment and calms down irritated skin. It suppresses the activation of harmful substances in irritated skin while also minimizing moisture loss by creating a moisture barrier.
  • Glyceryl caprylateto: smoothen skin
  • Ledebouriella seseloides root extract: help cleanses skin well
  • Natural surfactants: derived from natural coconut to create a smooth foam.
Pyunkang Yul has their own test institution called the Pyunkang Yul Korean Medical Skin Care Research Laboratory where they had 200 adult females test out this cleansing foam over a period of 10 months. The results were:
📎Cleansing: 98.2% I feel my skin is rid of pollutants
📎Hydration; 91% I feel my face hydrated after washing
📎Feeling after using: 95.1% It lathers well and gentle
📎Skin Texture: 90.3% I feel skin texture is smoother

You can see it's a milk, liquidy, runny color and texture.
Look at the stretchy, stickiness of the cleanser!

Type of Cleanser: Cleansing Foam

Size: 150 mL / 5.1 oz. (The size of the cleanser was a big reason why I bought it because it gave a lot of product for a cheaper price.)

Color: White

Fragrance: Has a perfume-y smell, it's strong, but goes away once washed off. I understand that this is an artificial fragrance that was ADDED into the ingredients, this is NOT a natural fragrance.

Texture: A weird sticky, runny texture. It's really liquidy and just spills out of the bottle constantly. It doesn't really foam up.

Packaging: Comes in a rubbery plastic that you can squeeze out the cleanser. Has a plastic flip cap.

Full Ingredients ListSaposhnikovia Divaricata Root Extract, Glycerin, Myristic Acid, Lauric Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Beeswax, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Glycol Distearate, Lauramide DEA, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Sodium Polyacrylate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Fragrance

How To Use:
Apply adequate amount on dry hand. Let the texture stretch between hand and face to cleanse pores thoroughly. Wet face and hand to lather. Wash with warm water.

How I Use It:
I used this as my morning face cleanser. On dry hands, I would pour out the amount I wanted for my face and massage the cleanser onto the dry skin of my face. I was massage around for a few seconds to kind of let it marinate. Then, I would use warm water to wet my hands and face and massage around again. Once I feel that it was cleaned enough, I rinsed off with warm water.

Below, I will test how well this cleansing foam removes makeup and washes my face.
Left to Right: Macqueen Eyeliner, Ulta Pencil Eyeliner, Rimmer Lash Accelerator Mascara
This is what it looks like lathered up. You can still clearly see the liquid eyeliner and mascara and faintly of the pencil eyeliner. It's crazy because none of these products are waterproof so theoretically, they should remove really easily with this cleanser.
NOTE: My hand only looked fully makeup removed because I had to use the cleansing foam MULTIPLE TIMES to completely remove it all. I wish I took a picture the first time I rinsed my hand off so that you could see how there was still makeup left behind, but I forgot. Essentially, the first time I rinsed off the cleanser, it still looked pretty much like it did from the picture above were you could see the foam.

BEFORE                                         DURING                                      AFTER
My face feels moisturized. Skin isn't stretched out or tight feeling at all.

BEFORE                                                                  AFTER

Overall, this is only a so-so face cleanser for me. I don't plan to ever buy it again, but I'm glad I got to try it out.

While I know it's purpose isn't to remove makeup, I always try to see if my face cleanser has the ability to remove makeup so that I could potentially use that cleanser as my 2nd step in my double cleansing routine at night. However, after seeing how this cleanser worked out on removing just eyeliner and mascara, I would have to say that it is NOT a good makeup remover and I would never use it as a 2nd step cleanser, nor would I ever use it as a face cleanser at night to fully clean my face from the dirt, grime, oils, and sunscreen.

As a face cleanser in the morning, it's adequate enough. My face feels relatively clean, not squeaky clean which is good, but just eh... Like it's almost on the border of "did it fully clean my pores?" kind of feeling. My skin doesn't feel stretched out or tight. It does have a moisturized feeling and I will admit my skin did feel a litter softer after using it, however, it's almost unnoticeable and not anything remarkable.
MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE WITH THIS CLEANSER IS IT'S TEXTURE!!!!!!!
I absolutely HATE the texture of the cleanser! It's so liquidy and runny that it is literally just POURING out of the tube. I NEVER have to squeeze it because it just pours right out on it's own. It's so annoying because whenever I open the bottle, a bunch of the cleanser just comes pouring out and it lands inside the bottle cap, ending up causing a LOT to be caked into the cap. It's just so wasteful and I don't like it.

The stickiness of the cleanser isn't a big deal to me. I actually think it's something that makes Pyunkang Yul unique in this instance because I've never seen any other cleanser quite like it.

I know some people won't like the fragrance of this cleanser, or they won't like that Pyunkang Yul ADDED fragrance to this cleanser, but there's really nothing you can do about it. It's really perfumey. I'm not bothered by it, but I do understand that some people are sensitive to fragrances for their skin, so it's just something to think about when considering purchasing this cleanser.

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐
I'm only giving it 3 stars because honestly, it's not a stand out cleanser for me. Someone with dry skin might appreciate this cleanser more than me who has oily skin.
