Review: Pyunkang Yul Acne Facial Cleanser

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

Today, I'll be reviewing a cleanser that is a favorite for many people. This cleanser is from Pyukang Yul. I have previously tried another Pyunkang Yul Cleansing Foam, which is wasn't a huge fan of, so coming in trying this cleanser, I had low expectations.

I bought my cleanser from Yesstyle.com last year when I was running out of face cleansers. I had heard great things about this one, so I wanted to give it a try even though I didn't like the other cleanser from the same brand.

This is a cleanser that is made for people who are acne-prone and sensitive skin. It's a hypoallergenic facial cleanser that doesn't damage the skin's barrier, removing blackheads and whiteheads as well as bacteria within pores. It's is infused with white willow bark to exfoliate dead skin cells, forsythia suspensa fruit extract to decrease inflammation and centella asiatica extract to rejuvenate skin.

Has the ability to control excessive oil and sebum secretion which leads to unclogging pores and eventually elminiating acne.

Utilizes natural ingredients from eastern medicine to help maximize the effectiveness of this cleanser. The ingredients provide skin alleviation, oil and water balance, stronger skin barriers, sebum control and protection against external factors.

Skincare Effects:
🍃Removal of dead skin cells and impurities resulting from sebum
  • White willow bark is a medicinal herb commonly used in eastern medicine. In skincare terms, it contains salicylic acid (BHA) and Tannin, which thoroughly removes impurities and dead skin cells generated by excessive sebum secretion.
🍃Pore cleaning and anti-bacterial effects
  • Tiger Lily, another commonly used medicinal herb for detoxification and sterilization in eastern medicine, contains Matairesinol glucoside, which has great anti-bacterial effects.
  • Tiger Lily helps to prevent bacteria within pores from creating inflammation in the skin and assists in elminiating impurities from inside the pores.
🍃Anti-inflammatory effects and skin regeneration
  • Copper tripeptide is a natural peptide, which has anti-inflammatory effects and helps damaged skin repair itself, regenerating acne scars.
  • White Willow Bark, a natural anti-inflammatory, helps to alleviate inflammation and soothing acne.
Star Ingredients:
  • Green Tea: Removal of harmful environmental factors
  • Licorice: Skin alleviation
  • Rosemary Leaf: Oil and water balance
  • Asiatic Knotweed Root Extract: Stronger skin barrier
  • Ganhuangenin: Skin alleviation
  • Matricaria Flower: Sebum control
  • Ledebouriella Sesamoids Extract: Penetrates pores, targeting the most stubborn pimples cause by bacteria and dead skin cells
  • Centella Asiatica: Rejuvenates skin
Here's a close-up of the cleanser. It's mostly a clear color, has a really runny-liquidy texture.

Type of Cleanser: This cleanser is sort of gel-like. It doesn't create a foam when being massaged around.

Size: 120 mL

Color: Clear

Texture: Runny and liquidy. Because if it's texture, the cleanser easily comes running out of the tube, making me feel like it can be very wasteful. It's hard to control the amount that comes out because of its runny texture.

Fragrance: It's suppose to be fragrance free since there's no added fragrance, but it actually has a chemical-y smell to it. I really hate the smell.

Packaging: Comes in a rubbery, plastic white tube bottle.

Free From: parabens, sulfate, alcohol, artificial fragrance and color.

Full Ingredients ListWater, cocamidoopropyl betaine, sodium methyl oleoyl taurate, peg-75, acrylates, copolymer, glycerin, disodium, cocoamphodipropionate, peg-120 methyl glucose dioleate, dimethyl sulfone, pyridoxine hcl, salix alba (willow) bark extract, forsythia suspensa fruit extract, butylene glycol, centella asiatica extract, polygonum cuspidatum root extract, scutellaria baicalensis root extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, glycyrrhiza uralensis (licorice) root extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria)

How To Use:
Take a moderate amount and lather it up. Massage over the entire face in rolling motions. Wash off with lukewarm water.

How I Use It:
I used this as my morning facial cleanser. I would wet my face and then squeeze/pour out a quarter-coin sized amount on to my hands. I would just apply the cleanse straight onto my face instead of lathering between my hands, and I would just massage it around straight on my face .
Once I feel likey face has been cleaned enough, I rinsed off my skin with warm water.

Below are pictures of me testing out the cleanser on both my face and on removing makeup.
The cleanser was able to wash off the surface of my skin, taking off the surface level of skincare I had on overnight. I no longer have that oily sheen anymore. However, I don't feel that clean after using this cleanser.
From is close-up you can see the oils where definitely washed off my face. My skin doesn't look dry it stretched out.
You can actually see between the Before/After, there isn't a big difference between the two. The only real difference is again, I can feel the surface of my skin feels sort of clean, but my skin on a deeper level still feels dirty. In the middle for the During, you can see that this cleanser doesn't really foam at all. It's really minimal foam.
1. The makeup on my hand from bottom-up are: Macqueen Liquid Eyeliner, Macqueen waterproof Gel Pencil Eyeliner, Ulta Dual-Ended Pencil Eyeliner, Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara
2. I've added the cleanser to my hand. It's so runny that it's running down my hand.
3. I've been massaging the cleanser around. It easily removed the mascara and it took a LOT of work to remove the pencil eyeliner. It's not doing anything to the liquid or gel eyeliner.
4. After rinsing off with water, the gel eyeliner really hasn't changed much and I had to rub a lot to try to remove some of the liquid eyeliner.

Overall, I'm not a fan of this cleanser at all. I'm starting to think maybe I just won't be a fan of Pyunkang Yul cleansers...

First, I hated the smell of this cleanser. I felt like it smelt like some sort of disgusting chemical-y cleanser. I hated having it on my face and having to smell it's fragrance. YUCK!

Second, I hated the texture of the cleanser. Like the Pyunkang Yul Cleansing Foam that I previously reviewed, this also had the runny, liquid texture, causing the cleanser to literally run out of the tube like water. I felt like it was hard to control how much of the cleanser came out since it would literally just come out on its own without me having to squeeze the tube. This cleanser, along with the other Pyunkang Yul cleanser, would do better in an actual plastic pump-style bottle instead of this kind of packaging.

Lastly, I just don't feel like it cleanses really well. I don't feel like it's that deep cleaning, making me feel like its only washing my skin at a surface level, and not really cleaning out my pores. Although, my pores don't look clean, they just don't really feel it.

Also, as a cleanser, it didn't do a good job at removing makeup. I tested it on different kinds of eyeliner and mascara, it didn't even do anything to the gel eyeliner I had on and it couldn't completely remove the liquid eyeliner. It took a lot of work/rubbing in order to remove the pencil eyeliner. It was able to take off the mascara, but the mascara isn't waterproof so I feel like it could've just been the water that helped removed it.

Since the cleanser wasn't really ankle to remove all my makeup, it's again makes me skeptical on how well this cleanser really is cleaning my skin.

It's not moisturizing, but it doesn't dry out my skin either, which is great, but my skin just doesn't feel really clean after using this cleanser either. Assiduously
Additionally, I don't feel like this cleanser helped with my acne, but it also didn't cause me to break out which is good.

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐
I really didn't like this cleanser and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It didn't help with my acne, didn't make my skin feel clean, and I absolutely hate the chemical smell.
