Review: Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm

Hi Everyone!
Today, I will be reviewing the Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm. I have reviewed a few products from Beauty of Joseon before, Beauty of Joseon Silky Moist Cleansing Foam, Beauty of Joseon Revitalize Sleeping Mask, and Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream.
Their products are pretty good in my opinion. The only one I haven't been a big fan of so far was the cleansing foam, which you can read about from my blog.

I bought this cleansing balm as a set from Yesstyle.com. They were having a sale where they sold this big set of 4 full-sized products from Beauty of Joseon. The set contained the Dynasty Cream, Apricot Peeling Gel, Revitalize Sleeping Mask, and Radiance Cleansing Balm. It was a total steal, unfortunately, they aren't currently selling it anymore. Hopefully, they will bring it back in the future.

Beauty of Joseon like to use natural Hanbang (traditional Korean herbal medicine) ingredients to create their skincare products. It has been known that there are many natural herbs that can be used to cure many ailments. Koreans are not the only culture that use traditional herbal medicine to cure health issues. Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, and more, are all cultures that have used traditional herbal medicine methods.

This is a sherbet-like cleansing balm that gently melts away makeup, dirt, and excess oil without irritating or drying out skin. Contains nutrient-rich rice water and fermented grains to help skin retain moisture and offer brightening benefits. Also has Chrysanthemum extract, which contains vitamin A and B to protect skin and soothe sensitives.
The sherbet-like cleansing balm softly melts and becomes oily on your skin from your skin temperature.

3-Special Treatment of Radiance Cleansing Balm:
🍃1. Rice Water for pure white skin
Rice water has an abundant amount of vitamin B and minerals so that it fills skin with moisture and liveliness.
🍃2. Grain Fermentation the fruit of true heart
Has Rice, Rice Bran, Bean 3 grain fermentation ingredient so it cleans softly and fills inside of the skin with nutrients and makes moist and bright skin without tugging after washing.
🍃3. Chrysanthemum of the 4 gracious plants
Among the 4 gracious plants in this cleansing balm. The 4 plants are: plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo. Chrysanthemum has buxom and delicate elegance has vitamin A and B1, so it improves complexion and skin self-propagation and calms skin that became sensitive due to harmful environmental stressors.

This cleansing balm is great for ALL skin types!!!

I forgot to take a picture of the cleansing balm when I first opened it, so I found this picture instead. There is a inner cap inside the tub of cleansing balm, providing extra protection from dirt or water to get in.

This is how the cleansing balm looks. It has a sherbet texture and is white colored. It sort of looks grain-y, but trust me, it isn't. It is really smooth feeling and glides on the skin.

This is a close-up of the cleansing balm when it first comes out of the tub. I took a picture myself, but it was later on when my tub of cleansing oil had been exposed to some water so it looks a little different compared to this picture. You can see it's solid and sherbet-like. It's smooth in texture and glides on the skin. It doesn't have chunky bits.

Size: 80 g / 2.8 oz.

Color: White

Fragrance: There is a mild fragrance to this cleansing balm. Not heavy. It's sort of like soap smell.

Texture: Sherbet-like texture. It's smooth and not grainy or chunky. The balm melts into an oil when in contact with skin due to your skin's temperature.

Packaging: Comes in a Korean paper box. The cleansing balm is in a white plastic tub. Really minimalistic in packaging.

Accessories: Provides a small plastic spatula.

Free From: Parabens, Sulfate, Alcohol, Silicone, and EU Allergens

Star Ingredients: Rice Water, Grain Fermentation, Chrysanthemum

How To Use:
Apply cleansing balm onto dry fingertips and gently spread it on all over face, gently massage onto skin. Rinse off with warm water.

How I Use It:
I use this cleansing balm only at night right before I shower. I use take about a quarter-sized coin amount since I will be putting it on not only my face, but also my neck. I usually take the amount I want and then go into the shower, making sure my face and neck aren't touched by water, and gently apply and massage the balm all over. If I am wearing makeup, I make sure to concentrate more of the balm in those areas. Once I've massaged the balm to the point that it's become an oil and I feel that I have done as much as I can, I go under the water to rinse off.

BEFORE
1. Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara
2. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer - Medium
3. Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner
4. Ciate London Starstruck Double-Ended Stamp Liquid Eyeliner

BEFORE
This is a close-up of the cleansing balm on my hand. It's already starting to melt and become oily at the edges.

DURING
This is how the cleansing balm looks while I am trying to remove the makeup. You can see that there is still mascara and traces of the liquid eyeliner. It becomes oily and moves around easily.

AFTER
Here's how my hand looks after I rinsed off the oil with warm water. It moved all the makeup. ***Note: I had to rub excessively on my hand to remove the makeup fully***

Overall, this cleansing balm was okay. I wouldn't say it's the end-all-be-all, but it is good.

It removes makeup so-so. I don't normally wear waterproof makeup, so theoretically, my makeup should be easy to remove with any simply cleansing oil or balm. However, it takes a long time for this cleansing balm to remove any sort of eyeliner. If it was already so hard to remove from my hands, imagine how much harder it is to remove from my eyes!
I don't like to rub the skin around my eyes hard or excessively, but using this cleansing balm sort of forces you to do so.
If you practice the double cleansing method, I would stay this is an okay cleansing balm for the first step.

Another thing I don't like about this cleansing balm is that you need to take a lot of product to cover a lot of surface area. Since I use this cleansing balm for both my neck and face, I need at least a quarter-sized coin amount. Sometimes even more when the makeup isn't completely removed during the first wash. This just seems like a big waste to me and causes the product to be used up faster.

I would like to note that it does NOT irritate my eyes. I know many people have found issues with the Banilo Co. cleansing balm because it cause stinging in their eyes, but this one doesn't. This balm also doesn't cause me to breakout. This is good because this balm is advertised for being good for sensitive skin.
This cleansing balm doesn't cause my skin to feel tight or dry. Instead, my skin feel moisturized and smooth.

I do feel like my skin looks more bright and radiant after using it. If you look at the BEFORE/AFTER of my hands, it does look brighter, moisturized and less dull.

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐⭐
While this was an okay cleansing balm, I will probably NOT buy it again. I prefer cleansing oils, however, if you are traveling, this cleansing balm would be a better alternate to an oil. It does the job pretty well with removing makeup, but you might want to use another cleanser if you don't like to go back and use the cleansing balm again.
