Review: By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water

Hi Everyone!

Today, I will be discussing this Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water, essentially it is a TONER.
I bought this toner from Yesstyle during one of the sales earlier this year, but it took me a while to actually start using it.
Due to my oily skin, it is important that I exfoliate my skin daily. I always use some sort of gentle exfoliant everyday, whether it be my night cleanser or my toner.

On Wishtrend:
"A hydrating and non-irritating exfoliant that can be used daily. Formulated with Mandelic Acid, it acts as an exfoliating treatment that improves the skin tone and texture while boosting the effectiveness of other products."
It not only improves the skin's texture, brighten the skin tone, and nourish the complexion, it exfoliates away dead skin for a more radiant appearance.

This mandelic acid toner contains 5% mandelic acid that easily penetrates skin to help improve pigmentation and heal blemishes. Along with beta-glucan, panthenol, centella extract and sodium hyaluronate, this toner restores hydration while gently exfoliating skin at the same time without irritation. Suitable even or sensitive skin.

As a mild exfoliator that works on the surface of the skin, safe to use even for sensitive skin to avoid the use of harsh chemical exfoliation. Effective for acne due to its anti-inflammatory antibacterial properties.

Mandelic acid: AHA. Has a large molecular size which causes very little irritation to the skin. It helps to improve pigmentation as well as to restore aged skin. Also has antibacterial properties that are effective for inflammatory acne.

Beta-glucan: moisturizing, redness reduction, anti-inflammatory and soothing effects.

Panthenol: AKA vitamin B5. Acts as a humectant and moisturizer, improving the skin's abilities to regenerate and to maintain hydration. It is also used to prevent inflammation and to prevent itching.

Centella Asiatica Extract: helps regenerate damaged skin.

Sodium Hyaluronate: As a natural moisturizing factor. It attracts moisture and helps retain moisture within the skin, preventing dryness after exfoliation.

If you look a the FAQ on www.wistrend.com, you will see someone asked the question
"Do I use this in place of toner?"
Answer: Yes and no. While the mandelic water is not a toner, depending on if you feel that your skin needs the extra layer of hyration and protection that a toner provides, you can choose to use the mandelic water during the step you would toner, and skip toner as a whole. This is because the mandelic water, while it's considered an exfoliator, works to also prep the skin as a toner would for skincare products applied afterwards.

Recommended for:
  1. Sensitive skin type: less irritation due to low skin permeability
  2. Dry skin: moisturizing effect
  3. Acne-prone skin: anti-bacterial effect

Cruelty-Free & Vegan Friendly

Color: Colorless

Fragrance: It has an acidic-y smell. When I smell this toner, I literally think "oh acid". It smells sharp, I can't really describe or pinpoint an exact smell. It's not citrus-y in my opinion, which is the usual reason something smells "acidic-y".

Packaging: It's in a dark plastic bottle. Has a white cap. The mandelic water comes in from a stopper-like top.

How To Use:
You can use this 3-4 times a week before using your toner, however if you have sensitive skin, it is recommended you use this product only 2-3 times a week. It is advised to gently wipe and pat the product on your face using a cotton pad.
In the morning, make sure you apply sunscreen on!!!

How I Use It:
I use this toner everyday, both morning and night. I would apply it onto a cotton pad and wipe to all around my face and down my neck.

1st Picture: Here's a swatch of the toner on a cotton pad. It is colorless!
2nd Picture: Here is how the cotton pad looks after I have applied the toner onto my skin. You can see some discoloration on the pad from the toner exfoliating my skin.

BEFORE                                                          AFTER
I sort of see some skin brightening effects, but this is a gradual thing. It isn't instantaneous. My skin does look less dull after application.

BEFORE                                                          AFTER
This is a close-up of my left check, before/after using the toner. You can actually see a nail mark on my cheek from me trying to pop a pimple. I have some skin dryness on my cheek, near the corner of my mouth. You can see that the toner helped exfoliate it off, smoothing my skin over.

BEFORE                                                 AFTER
This is a close-up of my right cheek, before/after using the toner. This is actually a completely DIFFERENT day from the picture above for the left cheek. You can see I have some skin dryness at a pimple area in the before. In the after, after applying the toner, you can see that dryness is GONE. The toner helped exfoliate it off. My skin/pores look hydrated after application as well.

Overall, I did like this toner.

However, be warned! If you have an open pimple or even just a pore that is "open", this toner will STING like no other when apply over the area. It literally burns. But the pain does go away after a few seconds. Literally as you keep using it, you either get used to the stinging or you're just not bothered by it anymore.
I do love that it is a gentle daily exfoliant. As I mentioned earlier, since I have oily skin, I need to do some sort of daily exfoliant everyday to wash away my dead skin cells and the excess oils produced. This toner is a perfect solution. I will admit that when I was using it daily, twice a day, since I also applied it to my neck, it was causing the under side of my jaw to have a dry spot. It was a dry skin spot that was sort of flake-ish. However, I stopped applying the toner to my neck in the morning and only at night and I made sure o apply extra moisturizer on my under jaw area to help with the dryness.
As I had shown in the pictures above, you can actually SEE that the toner helped remove the dry skin / flaky skin on my cheek!
I don't notice a huge difference in brightness in all honesty. It takes a gradual period of time for the effects to actually be noticeable. I also can't say for sure how much this toner helps with pigmentation since I don't really have any pigmentation issues.

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I would recommend this toner to everyone to try. It's still a great daily exfoliant toner to use even with the stinging. I got over the stinging after a few weeks of using this toner. I really like the effects of it and I can see why so many people like it. I'm taking a star off because of the stinging.
