Review: COSRX AC Collection Lightweight Soothing Moisturizer

Hi Everyone!

Today, I will be continuing with my review of the COSRX AC Collection. This part will be about the Lightweight Soothing Moisturizer.
This moisturizer is part of the Stylekorean X COSRX collection set that was given to me for FREE in return for my honest review as part of their Try Me;Review Me campaign. Within the set given to me, I received 5 full-size skincare products along with 1 packet of the AC Collection Acne Patches.
Here's a look at everything that was given to me.

Geared towards people who have acne prone skin, this lightweight facial moisturizer is keeps your skin balanced while also soothing the highly heat sensitive skin and cool down the acne prone skin.

Main Effects:
💧Calming
💧Hydrating
💧Moisturizing
💧Mild
💧Soothing
💧Lightweight

Like the Foam Cleanser that I reviewed last week, this Moisturizer contains the CentellAC-Rx Complex. This complex not only treats acne, but also help to revitalize and recover the skin without any irritation. The CentellAC-Rx Complex is made up of:
🍃Madecassic Acid - Protect skin & calming
🍃Asiaticoside - Help keep skin transparent and clear
🍃Asiatic Acid - Strengthen skin barrier & help maintain skin balance

Other Star Ingredients include:
  • Aloe Vera leaves extract & Propolis extract & Green Tea extract - Moisturizers skin and soothes irritated skin
    • Side Note: I LOVE that it contains Aloe Water in it! I'm a huge fan of skincare products that contain Aloe.
  • Niacinamide & Zinc PCA- Controls sebum and excessive oil
  • AHA & BHA - Contains small dose in order to manage and remove the dead skin cells

Targeted for: Acne Prone Skin and Oily Skin Types!!!

🐇VEGAN FRIENDLY🐇
The opening of the moisturizer is this tiny hole, but don't be fooled! The texture of this moisturizer is so gel-like and light that it easily slides out of the bottle without any squeezing necessary.

This moisturizer is white with a gel-like texture. It glides onto the skin like a soothing gel, therefore, a little goes a long way and you don't need a lot to cover your whole face and neck.

How To Use:
  1. Gently apply a proper amount of the cream onto face avoiding the eye area after cleansing and toning.
  2. Tap the area for better absorption.
  3. Store away from direct sunlight to prevent the liquid from turning brown.
How I Use It:
I use this moisturizer at the end of my skincare routine after I have finished applying my serum and eye cream. In the morning, I will follow this moisturizer with sunscreen and at night I just end my skincare routine with it.
I like to dot my face and neck with the moisturizer and then lightly massage it into my skin. Since it's so gel-like, a little goes a long way.

Below is the first time I used this moisturizer. I will share my thoughts along the way.
Left to Right: BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER
It's definitely a really lightweight moisturizer that is NOT really moisturizing. There is a cooling effect after massaging the moisturizer around, providing a sense that the redness on my face has decreased slightly. It's not sticky and my face doesn't feel oily nor is there any weird residue leftover.
BEFORE
AFTER
I know there are 2 AFTER pictures, but they're in slightly different angles. I wanted to see if there really was a difference in my problem acne area towards the back of my cheeks which is why there are 2 AFTER cheek pictures. Overall, it's not really moisturizing, but feels really lightweight on the skin, providing a nice cooling effect. There is a slight decrease in redness if you compare the BEFORE/AFTER picture of the acne area towards the back of my cheek.
Left to Right: BEFORE & DURING
AFTER
Again, There are 2 AFTER pictures of my cheek because they're in different angles and I wanted to see if there was a change in redness in my acne area towards the back of my cheek. In the end, I think there is a moderately slight change in redness in my acne on my cheek. As I will be repeating over and over again, this moisturizer isn't moisturizing enough, however, it isn't oily and doesn't feel heavy on my skin either.
Left to Right: BEFORE & AFTER
There's literally almost no change whatsoever between the two pictures! That's because this moisturizer isn't really hydrating, so I don't really see much of a change. I also don't really have any acne on my forehead so it's hard to see if there's any soothing/calming effects going on, however, I will reiterate, there is a cooling effect which is really nice.

Overall, I do like this moisturizer but it definitely is only for oily skin people. Even though it's great for acne prone skin, if you have both acne prone skin AND dry skin... probably best not to use it.

I repeat again, THIS MOISTURIZER IS NOT MOISTURIZING/HYDRATING!!!!

This is why is would be horrible for anyone who has dry skin. Even for me, I have oily skin and I feel like it's not hydrating enough for this dry winter season. I think as an oily skin type person, I would recommend this moisturizer during the hot SUMMER season. Since it has a nice cooling effect, it's more suited for the summer months. Again, definitely NOT suited for anyone who is NOT oily skin typed.

However, I love that it's not oily at all and is really lightweight on the skin. I like the way it feels on my skin. That nice gel-like texture just glides so smoothly onto my skin, almost like aloe soothing gel (which I absolutely LOVE using). I love that it doesn't make me even oilier than my skin already is and I also like that I don't have any weird icky residue leftover from applying this moisturizer.

There is a strong fragrance to this moisturizer, not as strong as the cleanser I reviewed last week, but it's along the same line of fragrance profile. It has that strong tea tree oil and green tea smell.

I do think it calms down the redness on my acne problem areas, however it's a subtle kind of change. The cooling/calming effects of this moisturizer are the driving force for this change in redness and I'm glad that there's that shining effect from this supposed "moisturizer."

Rate (out of 5 stars): ⭐⭐⭐⭐
While this is a nice moisturizer, it's not really moisturizing/hydrating, making the name of it just sort of be false advertisement. It's really more like a light gel emulsion/lotion. I love the cooling and calming effect of it and if you have oily skin that I think this is definitely a great product to try!

  1. That was a great review. Thanks! I was going to suggest that if you like it enough to continue using it but want more hydration or moisture, there are ways to fix that. I like to mix in a drop or two of my favorite serum ( a hydrating formula). You can also mix in a small amount of an oil that is good for oily skin. At night I sometimes mix it with a drop of Great Barrier Relief from Krave Beauty. The Cosrx moisturizer blends well with other products. Adding a little oil on top at night is another way to use it and it feels amazing!
